Ice Fishing Report 12/29/2023
We have had a great start to the hard water season. Big thanks to many of you we have been able to make memories with already this season! It’s been a great year, thank you for supporting our small family business!! We are looking forward to all that 2024 will bring!
As always be cautious on early ice, check thickness yourself, make sure to have spikes, spud bar, rope, and a throwable flotation devise. Check your own ice don’t just go because you see somebody out there.
Dates to remember:

The wind let up and the temps dropped the last few nights and we have gained a lot of ice. We have new ice stretching all the way to Elk Creek. From the Hwy 149 bridge to Elk Creek is over 95% ice and should all lock up tonight. Most of this ice is 1-1.5 inches thick, a few spots pushing 3 inches. The oldest ice in the inlet is 15 inches and thins down to 5 inches where it meets up with this new ice. There has been a lot of fishing pressure in a small area so finding those unprepared fish is key. Fishing has been pretty solid most days with some good size trout and the occasional perch mixed in.

Antero has been fishing fantastic most days. It’s key to move around often and cycle through those baits looking for those less pressured fish. Ice is averaging 10 inches thick with 2-3 inches of hard pack on-top of that. No new pressure ridges have formed and the wind is blowing the hard pack off of some areas.

Taylor locked up quick and grew fast. The ice is 7-12 inches. All in all, fishing has been great on a variety of colors and patterns. We’ve been catching a mixed bag of species: rainbows, lakers, and the occasional pike. The road is plowed to the marina although some days have been windy which drifts in the marina road.

Lake San Cristobal is all capped with 7-10 inches of ice with very little snow on top. There are a few pressure ridges but they have frozen back together very nice. Fishing has been good. The fish have been very scattered across the water column so pay attention to that fish finder and move often.
