Every part of Colorado is experiencing and reacting to this virus a little bit differently. We believe that recreating is a great way to take advantage of forced time off as long as social distancing is practiced and rules in place are followed! Here’s what we know across the state:
– All State Parks are still open!- and quite a few are still open to boating with regular muscle inspection hours for this time of year. We have heard reports of 160 boats a day on the weekends at Pueblo reservoir and some of the Denver State Park Lakes have been busy as well!
South Park Lakes– these lakes are not completely open water, but have started to ice out!
Blue Mesa- is almost all open water! HOWEVER, Gunnison county officials have outlawed (yes you read that right) any individual that doesn’t live in the county from visiting or recreating in Gunnison County. Boat ramps are tentatively going to open on May 1, but this could very well get pushed back when the National Park re-evaluates the situation at the end of April. Also, for the locals who are allowed to fish Blue Mesa, ABSOLUTELY NO watercrafts are allowed to launch, whether they are hand-launched or electronically powered. This rule has been applied to discourage out of county recreation, but is very unfortunate!
Taylor Reservoir still has plenty of ice if you feel the urge to ice fish! As always, be very careful when fishing on late-season ice!
